DAY 3: Toledo
Get to know Toledo with a guided tour through the city, famous for its status in the Spanish Empire and its Moorish, Jewish and Christian heritage. This afternoon and evening you're free to spend time at the Alcazar or visit El Greco greats. (B)
DAY 4: Haro
Head to Madrid where a bus provides a panoramic portrait of Spain's capital. Hop off at the Prado, one of Europe's premier art museums, for a customized tour enhanced by headsets. After lunch continue north into the heart of the Rioja winelands for dinner. (B,D)
DAY 5: Haro
Spend the free morning soaking up Haro's palaces and small-town pleasures. This afternoon indulge your palate at one of Rioja's finest wineries with a vineyard tour and tasting. (B)
DAY 6: San Sebastian
After appreciating Spain's fine wine, today's topic is fine art at one of the world's most exciting museums: Frank Gehry's Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao. The provided audio guides will customize to your interests. After lunch, follow Spain's northern coast to San Sebastián. Arrive on the shores of the Bay of Biscay in time for dinner. (B,D)
DAY 7: San Sebastian
Explore old San Sebastián on a guided walking tour and note the best tapas bars for which the Basque are renowned. Take the afternoon to enjoy the beach or venture via boat to Santa Clara Island, which shelters the coast from the Atlantic. San Sebastián's famed beachside spa La Perla is also available if personal pampering is the order of the day. (B)
DAY 8: Olite
Although Pamplona is most known for its gripping running of the bulls, its friendliness and narrow cobbled streets are an attraction year round. Discover this for yourself on a leisurely stop this morning. Then, travel to the Pyrénees region, and seemingly back in time, to Olite. Live (and dine!) like royalty during your stay in a 15th century Spanish castle, or Parador. (B,D)
DAY 9: Barcelona
The path to Barcelona is lined with many sights, and you'll take in the best: the 12th century Monasterio de Oliva, Cataluña's magnificent scenery, and its significant bubbly, or cava, as Spanish sparkling wine is called. Lunch follows a guided tour and tasting of Freixenet or Codorniu, two of the region's top producers. Spend the evening as you wish in Barcelona. (B,L)
DAY 10: Barcelona
If you haven't discovered Las Ramblas or Gaudí yet, you'll enhance your acquaintance today with a local guide. This afternoon and evening are free, perhaps to visit Gaudí's Sagrada Familia and the museum devoted to its construction, which has been ongoing since 1882. (B)
DAY 11: Barcelona
Spend the morning at La Boqueria; a culinary fortress with more than 900 stalls. This afternoon you're free to catch up on postcards or ramble the city's galleries and shops. See Barcelona in its best light this evening on a sunset cruise on the Mediterranean, followed by a farewell dinner. (B,D)
