DAY BY DAY ITINERARY
DAY 1: Overnight Flight
Depart for Europe.
DAY 2: Lake Maggiore
Benvenuti! Your tour manager greets you at the airport today. Travel to the shores of Lake Maggiore and spend the day relaxing by the lake before enjoying a welcome reception and dinner. (D)
DAY 3: Lake Maggiore
Today a local guide introduces you to Milan, including the Galleria, La Scala, and the basilica of Sant'Ambrogio. See the Castello Sforzesco and stop at Santa Maria delle Grazie to view The Last Supper. End your day on the roof of the Duomo taking in city vistas. Return to Lake Maggiore this evening. (B)
DAY 4: Lake Maggiore
Journey through picturesque alpine valleys, past breath-taking gorges and over spectacular bridges aboard the Centovalli Railway this morning. Reaching Locarno in time for lunch at your leisure, spend your free afternoon exploring the sun-soaked piazzas of this lakeside town. Drive back to your hotel along the lakeside road for a free evening. (B)
DAY 5: Piedmont
Drive to Turin for a guided walking tour of the portico lined Castle Square, the Royal Palace, Saint Lawrence's Church and the Madama Palace. Continue to Valentino Park with its 16th century castle and astonishing Stupinigi hunting pavilion. Enjoy free time in the city before heading to your country hotel for dinner. (B,D)
DAY 6: Piedmont
Today's excursion takes you into the Langhe region, home to many famous wines and sought after truffles. Enjoy a wine tasting of some the area's best Barolo at a local castle and see one of the largest vineyards in Europe from the hilltop of La Morra. Later today, learn about the history, traditions and products of the region before joining a truffle hunter for a scenic truffle picking expedition. Return to your hotel for a free evening. (B)
DAY 7: Chamonix
Drive into the Val D'Aosta region and on to the Alps stopping at the foot of Mont Blanc in one of the famous cafes in Courmayeur. Perhaps try a Crolla, a large cup with many spouts that holds a concoction of grappa and coffee. Arrive in Chamonix and spend your free time relaxing in this popular ski resort town. (B,D)
DAY 8: Wengen
Today's excursion takes you to the impressive Château de Chillon on the shores of Lake Geneva. The castle is a series of 25 buildings dating from the 13th century and was the location of the imprisonment of François Bonivard. Continue to the town of Gruyeres, which lends its name to the cheese from this region, before driving to scenic Wengen for dinner. (B,D)
DAY 9: Wengen
Jump on board a cog railway to the Jungfrau, the roof of Europe, affording wonderful views of the Alps. Attractions at the top of the railway include an Ice Palace and observation terrace. On your way back down you may choose to disembark midway and enjoy a hike through Alpine pastures back to Wengen. (B)
DAY 10: Lucerne
Discover Swiss architecture at the Ballenberg Open Air historical museum in Brienz. Over 100 buildings of different regions have been brought to this site from all over the country. In addition to admiring the unique architecture, you have the opportunity to see traditional crafts from the various regions in practice. Continue to Lucerne for dinner and a night's rest. (B,D)
DAY 11: Lucerne
This morning you will discover masterworks by Picasso, Chagall, Miró and other classic modernists at the Rosengart Museum. Spend your free afternoon in Lucerne. Tonight join us for a special farewell four-course dinner. (B,D)
DAY 12: Departure
Depart for the USA. (B)
